HW 005: On Structure Fetishes

It seems to be a basic human need: To organize, to systematize, to structure. Often helpful, sometimes a disaster and a huge cause of demotivation in the people who actually have to do the work. People like you.

In this episode we dive into our need to add structures, procedures and rules to any and all problems, and why it’s so often the wrong solution. Doctors and nurses experience this and teachers suffer from it, to name just a few groups at the mercy of politicians, government officials and top management blinded by The Illusion of Control.

You’ll also hear a feeble attempt at advising you on how to respond when outside forces are interfering with your ability to do good work.
